Cobalt Drills

Cobalt drills are a good choice when you do not need the strength or cost of a carbide drill but high speed steel just is not quite enough.  Cobalt drills may be used in many applications as well as for drilling into a wide range of materials.

One of the most important factors to consider while using cobalt drills is the “Speed” and the material you are drilling.  It is important to remember to “let the drill do the work.” This means letting the drill do the cutting and not using “excessive force”.  By using extreme force to help the drilling process, all that will be accomplished is the burning out your tools prematurely.  Another tip is to use a lubricant when drilling into hard materials as this will help reduce the friction between the drill and the material.
